SolarReviews names ARiES Solar to Top 100 Residential Solar Installers

ARiES Solar has again been recognized by SolarReviews as one of the site’s top residential installers. A big part of that is due to reviews from our fabulous customers — we thank you! You may recall this summer we received a Top 500 award from Solar Power — but Solar Reviews is a bit different in a GOOD way for small, local businesses like us! Here’s what they have to say about the Top 100 program: For a couple of years now SolarReviews has provided data to the Solar Power World Top Installers List and we will continue to do so. However, we thought that because reviews score is only one thing considered in these lists … some of the small and medium sized installers that were recording much higher levels of customer satisfaction were being overlooked. We congratulate these companies and the contribution they are making to the solar industry. ARiES was one of only two Tennessee companies to be ranked nationally on the list and we ranked second in Tennessee. Again – many thanks to our customers who’ve taken the time to leave us a review. Haven’t reviewed us yet? You can leave your review at the ARiES Solar  SolarReviews profile page.... Read More

Appalachian Electric powers up TN’s first utility scale community solar array!

Update: See a timelapse video of the entire Appalachian Electric array construction in New Market, TN   After months of work, ARiES partner Appalachian Electric Cooperative today officially powered on its 1.37 megawatt community solar installation in New Market, Tennessee. It’s the first utility-scale community solar project in the state. “Today is a milestone in the life of our co-op – completion of its first renewable generation resource,” said Robert Drinnon, president of AEC’s board of directors. “Careful planning and oversight brought us here. Resources were leveraged for the good of the AEC membership.” More than 200 of the cooperative’s members have already subscribed to some 700 of the array’s solar panels. Subscriptions to the panels are through the Co-Op Community Solar Program and are open to residential and commercial members of the cooperative. AEC members subscribe to the generation output of individual solar panels, rated at 145 watts each, for a one-time cost of $125. John and Joan Barnhill were the first AEC members to subscribe through the program. The couple had planned to put solar on their home, but did not want to sacrifice the decades-old shade trees that blocked significant sunlight from reaching their roof. Individuals like the Barnhills, as well as those who rent or otherwise cannot own their own solar are some of the greatest beneficiaries of a community solar program. In addition, by leveraging the economies of scale, members reap all the environmental and sustainability benefits of solar generation at a much lower cost than the typical home install. AEC, ARiES break ground on TN’s first utility-scale community solar project

NEW MARKET, Tenn. — Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) and contractor ARiES Solar  on August 1, 2016 marked the start of construction on the utility’s 1.37 megawatt community solar array with a groundbreaking ceremony. It’s one of the first utility-scale community solar projects in the state. “The Co-op Community Solar program will allow our members, both residential and commercial, to realize the benefits of solar power at a very affordable price,” said AEC General Manager Greg Williams. “We are excited to be the first utility in our area to offer this option to our members.” Subscriptions to the solar power produced by the array will open later this week and members of the co-op will see information on their electric bills starting in August. Pricing will be on a per-panel basis for each of the 9,471 solar panels that make up the system. Subscribers will pay $125.00 per panel and receive a credit each month on their power bill. Commercial customers will also be able to benefit from Renewable Energy Credits, or RECs, generated by their panels. ARiES Recognized for Providing Jobs and Clean Energy in East Tennessee

Solar power is a booming business worldwide, but local installer ARiES Solar is among the companies recently named to an annual and well-recognized list of North America’s top solar contractors. ARiES achieved a rank of 461 out of 500 solar companies. The Top 500 Solar Contractors List is developed by Solar Power World magazine to recognize the work completed by solar contractors across the U.S. and Canada. The companies on the list are growing the economy, providing jobs and offering electricity consumers a choice about how they get their power. The list was released July 26. “The companies on this year’s list exude solar-business brilliance, and they deserve to be recognized not only for being great companies but also for how their work positively impacts the environment,” said Kathie Zipp, managing editor of Solar Power World. Solar energy is a renewable resource with great potential to significantly reduce our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association, a national solar industry association. “We’re proud to be listed as a Top 500 Solar Contractor nationally, and top 10 in Tennessee, for the fourth consecutive year,” said company president Harvey Abouelata. “2016 is a strong growth year for East Tennessee solar installs for us and, added to our expansion into neighboring states, means next year’s listing will be even more impressive.” ARiES employs 14 workers, who installed more than 200 kilowatts of solar in 2015. Matt Ellison Achieves NABCEP Certification

[Knoxville, TN]    Matthew Ellison, engineer at ARiES Solar , achieved the solar industry’s leading recognition of installation proficiency from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP®), and is now a NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional TM. NABCEP is the most prestigious and well established national certification organization for renewable energy professionals. Receiving classification as a NABCEP PV Installation Professional is widely understood to be the most useful and important certification of its kind in the solar industry. The price of solar PV (photovoltaic) systems has diminished greatly in the past few years, providing many more homeowners, communities, and companies the opportunity to “go solar.” NABCEP certification is a guarantee that the customer has to know who in their solar community is a quality contractor. To obtain his NABCEP certification, Ellison needed to record all related training and experience in PV system installation. After documenting his experience, he was required to pass an intense examination which covered the many skills needed to correctly design, install and maintain PV systems. The examination gauges expertise on electrical and mechanical system design, job site safety, the National Electrical Code, roofing and construction techniques, and system maintenance. “Receiving the NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification is an exciting milestone on my solar PV career path,” says Matt Ellison. “My high standards, education, and work ethic are now recognized and approved by the leading US solar PV installer certifying body. Our clients can feel confident, knowing that ARiES products and services have been provided by a third-party-qualified installer.” “One thing you can be assured of when hiring a NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional...
